Government will be going to Parliament on Tuesday, December 15, to have legislation passed pertaining to the Value Added Tax (VAT) increase on mobile services, that is, voice, data and text messaging.

This disclosure came today from Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler, who said that from January 2016, the tax would be raised from 17.5 per cent to 22 per cent.

Mr. Sinckler pointed out that meetings would be held this week with officials from the telecommunications companies to work out the technical details.??This measure was announced by Mr. Sinckler during the presentation of the 2015 Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals.
