Despite the current economic downturn, participation in this year’s Agrofest has increased from previous years.

This observation was made by Chief Executive Officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul, who stated that a "greater number of farmers in the livestock and fruit and vegetable categories are taking part this year, as opposed to previous years."?? He made these comments today at Queen’s Park during a site visit for sponsors.

During the meeting, Mr. Paul announced that Agrofest 2010 would be undergoing a number of changes. He said these would include an expanded bird show, which would return to its original venue at the Queen’s Park Steel Shed, as well as the inclusion of internet access.??

Mr. Paul also indicated that security has been improved, with vehicles being restricted from moving to and from the Park on exhibition days.

"We want to ensure that safety for everyone is a priority and we have had an incident free Agrofest to date and we would like it to remain so," he stressed.

As far as buses for school children were concerned, the official noted that "all the buses allocated by the Transport Board were fully utilised to work with individual schools to help them in terms of additional transportation.

"This event is constantly improving and it now attracts over 50,000 people and we want to emphasise to our sponsors that Agrofest could not improve unless they are also on board.?? Therefore, we want persons to know that they can expect a wonderful show this year," he remarked.

Agrofest takes place from Friday, February 26, to Sunday, February 28.??
