A senior government official is optimistic that the Canadian Construction Building Showcase could lead to an exchange in technologies.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing, Edison Alleyne, made this observation today, while addressing the official opening of the Canadian Construction Building Showcase, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

He told the gathering that the construction industry had improved over the last three years due largely in part to government’s thrust to provide affordable housing solutions for all Barbadians.??

Mr. Alleyne intimated that the expo would lead to enhanced relations between Barbados and Canada. "This expo can be seen as another step in forging closer and newer partnerships, especially in the area of construction.?? In addition, it [expo] would also facilitate the exchange of information and technologies, that can be adapted to suit the Barbadian context," he underlined.

Noting that the Housing Ministry had established joint partnerships with other Caribbean countries for the construction of houses in the past, the Permanent Secretary hinted at a similar arrangement with the Canadian government.

"I note with interest the wide range of products being showcased this afternoon such as doors, window frames and other innovative technologies that can be incorporated at various stages of the construction process.

At the end of the formal ceremony, Mr. Alleyne joined the Canadian High Commissioner, Ruth Archibald and other Canadian officials on a tour of the exhibition.
