All travellers planning to bring meat or animal products to Barbados are reminded that they must first obtain a permit for importation from the Veterinary Services Department of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Meat and meat products in their original commercial packaging may be brought from the United States of America, Puerto Rico, Canada and the United Kingdom, while commercially packaged cooked poultry products are allowed from the Caribbean.

Meat and meat products include: fresh, frozen or chilled cuts of meat or poultry; processed meats including hams, sausages, bacon, hot dogs, hamburgers, canned hams and other meats; and pastries containing meat filling, including meat patties, meat rolls, rotis, etc.

Applications for permits may be made at the Veterinary Services office in The Pine, St. Michael, Mondays to Fridays, (excluding public holidays) between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Persons may contact the department at 427-5492 or 427-5073, or visit the Ministry of Agriculture’s website http://www.agriculture.gov.bb/ for more information.
