COVID-19 & post-hurricane updates with Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Minister of Health and Wellness, Lt. Col Jeffrey Bostic – July 23, 2021. (PMO)

Currently, those persons who are in primary and secondary isolation facilities are not vaccinated.

Making this disclosure was Minister of Health and Wellness, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic, during a COVID-19 and Post-Hurricane Recovery press conference from Ilaro Court, yesterday.

Minister Bostic stated: “In our isolation facilities, none of the persons in primary and secondary isolation are vaccinated, and that is an important point, none of the persons in primary or secondary isolation are vaccinated.”

He went on to reveal that a significant number of those persons in recent times “perhaps 14, 15, 16 persons had to be oxygenated. They are either on CPAP machines or receiving some form of oxygen, because of their symptomatic conditions”.

Noting that those persons were not vaccinated, the Health Minister made a plea for Barbadians who have not taken a vaccine to date, to consider doing so.

According to the Minister: “There are over 400 persons in quarantine at quarantine hotels that we consider to be primary contacts from positive cases, and that was done as part of the ongoing process of isolating primary contacts and families if necessary, so that we could try and contain the spread of the virus.  And this is something that is working quite well for us.”

He pointed out that the ability to house persons at quarantine hotels was made possible by the Prime Minister who is also the Minister of Finance, and thanked her for making the necessary resources available.

“As Minister of Health and Wellness, I really have to thank the Honourable Prime Minister, Minister of Finance for making the resources available to my ministry so that we can do this and it is not cheap. But we do it because it has to be done, in our view, to be able to one; contain the spread of the virus, and secondly, to be able to facilitate economic activity because that is vital to the country,” Minister Bostic emphasised.
