As Barbados celebrates its 54th anniversary of Independence this month, the Parish Independence Committees (PIC), under the aegis of the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment will host several events.           

The St. Andrew PIC will start off the month with a series of Karaoke sessions beginning on Saturday, November 14, at Carries Bar, Hillaby, St. Andrew. This will be followed by the second session, on Saturday, November 21 at Sobers Mini Mart, Shorey Village, St. Andrew, with the final session scheduled for Saturday, November 28, at The Bay Lounge, Cambridge, St. Andrew. All sessions begin at 7:00 p.m.

On Saturday November 21, the St. Lucy PIC will host their Pop-Up Shop Independence Doflickly, at the The Ifill Phillips Auditorium, Trents, St. Lucy, from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Also on Saturday, November 21, the St. Peter PIC will host their Pre-Independence Karaoke session at the Speightstown Town Esplanade, Speightstown, St. Peter, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The following day, Sunday, November 22, the Christ Church PIC will host their roast lime, ‘Tradition is Alive’, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Oistins Beach (behind the Bay Gardens), Christ Church.

That same Sunday, St. Andrew PIC, in association with the Shorey Village New Testament Church of God, will host a ‘Grab and Go’ Food Sale from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, November 25, the Christ Church PIC will host a lecture from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at the Chesterfield Brewster Empowerment Centre, Silver Hill, Christ Church.

The following day, Thursday, November 26, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., the St. Andrew PIC and A DaCosta Edwards Primary School will host a Fun Day on the school grounds.

A few days later the PIC will then host a walk with the St. Andrew Parish Church on Saturday, November 28, at 6:00 a.m.

Later that morning, the St. George PIC will host their Entrepreneurship Expo at Glebe, St. George and a Knock-out Competition with the Ellerton Cricket Club, Ellerton, St. George. Both events run from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

On Saturday, Novemebr 28, the St. Saviour’s Church Exercise Session and Food Sale will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., at St. Saviour’s Church, St. Andrew. The Newbury/Providence Memorial Cricket Match will take place at Newbury Cricket Ground, Sion Hill, St. James beginning at 10:00 a.m.; while the Whitehall Football Academy at the White Hall Playing Field, St. Peter will be the venue for the St. Peter Communities Football Tournament, which begins at 9:00 a.m.

The following day, Sunday, November 29, the following events will be held: the “St. Andrew Uh Come From Cookout”, beginning at noon, at Long Pond, St. Andrew; the Spirit of the Nation Concert, hosted by the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat at The Lodge School Auditorium, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Jazz on de Edge, which will be held at the Ragged Point Light House, St. Philip, from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.

On Independence Day, Monday, November 30, beginning at 8:00 a.m., the Lions Club of Barbados East will host an Independence Lime at the Rices Pavilion, Rices, St. Philip; while in St. Peter, the Indian Ground Cultural and Sporting Club Independence Day Lime and Cricket Match, will take place on the grounds from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
