Activities to commemorate Barbados’ 42nd anniversary of independence will reach a climax this month with several events being hosted across the island.

Parish Independence Committees (PICs) have planned several events aimed at fostering a greater spirit of participation among the communities and by extension, stimulating greater pride in the nation.

Among the activities planned are a cricket match on Sunday, November 16, between Conrad Hunte Past and the Lions Club Scotland District at the Conrad Hunte Sports Club, Shorey Village, St. Andrew, at 12:00 noon;  on Saturday, November 22, a Bajan Evening will be held at the Bethel Family Church grounds, Lowlands, St. Lucy, at 5:00 p.m.; while on the same day the Christian Mission Church will host a Sunday School Pageant at the Gospel Tabernacle, Lightfoot Lane, the City, at 4:00 p.m.

On Saturday, November 29, there will be a PIC Independence Bazaar at the Ignatius Byer Primary School, Lowlands, St. Lucy, at 3:00 p.m.; and a Cultural Extravaganza and Open Day at the Bush Hall Institute for Action and Research Inc. from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Also on Saturday, November 29, there will be a Fun Day at the St. Alban’s Church Ground, Carlton St. James starting at 12:00 p.m.; while at 11:00 a.m. the Garden Church of God will host its Family Fun Day at Mount Standfast, St. James.

On Independence Day, November 30, another cricket match will bowl off, this time between the Conrad Hunte Past and Present. The venue will be the Conrad Hunte Sports Club, Shorey Village, St. Andrew, and it begins at 12:00 noon.

On the same day, Kendall, St. John, will host a Bajan Evening which will get under way at 12:00 noon; while on Monday, December 01, there will be a free Concert and Sports Final at the Belleplaine Playing Field, St. Andrew, starting at 5:00 p.m. Also on December 01, there will be a Bayville Women in Action Fun Day at Fields Place, Bayville, St. Michael starting at 9:00 a.m.
