Plans are still on stream to make Barbados a 24/7 society.??And, Industry Minister, Donville Inniss, has reiterated Government???s commitment to making this a reality.

Mr. Inniss was this morning speaking to media personnel after touring KM2 Solutions Call Centre at Building Number Six, Harbour Industrial Estate, St. Michael.

Explaining that this would allow for greater flexible working hours and working arrangements, the Minister added: ???Gone are the days of opening at eight and closing at four. And, I think right here in our Industrial Park, we have examples over the years of entities that have had to go at least two or three shifts in order to meet the demands of their clients.

I recognise that KM2 Solutions is one such company in the not too distant future that will certainly be a 24/7, 365 days a year company because clients are demanding it.?????Stressing that it was a priority area for Government, Mr. Inniss noted that the New Shops Act had recently been laid in Parliament, and he was continuing discussions on ???a few things we just have to do, to make it a realisation of being a 24/7 society???.

Vice President of Caribbean Operations at KM2 Solutions, Tony Jennings, revealed plans to grow his organisation, which currently employs 700 Barbadians, to 1,800. Praising the work ethic of his employees, he said he also wanted to expand the current space of 65,000 square feet to 100,000.??Part of that expansion process, he said, was to have an onsite medical facility.

???People who need to go and see a doctor have to go and wait hours and that is not good for them and it is not good for our business because of course they have to call out sick.

???When they have a minor ailment that just requires them to see someone for treatment, and when we have the onsite medical facility ??? people can come, get their treatment immediately, recover and go on with a productive day. It raises the productivity for the business, it satisfies an urgent need on the part of the people and it will be absolutely free for them, so they don???t have the wait time or the expense of seeing a doctor,??? he pointed out.

Mr. Jennings further stressed that it was initiatives such as these that should be a corporate responsibility, and noted that it showed commitment to the community and the people of Barbados. KM2 Solutions, which provides call centre services, is also located in St. Lucia, the Dominican Republic, Honduras and Grenada.
