Holetown, St. James

The Ministry of Environment and National Beautification and its contractor INFRA Inc. worked feverishly over the last week to get enough done to allow for a temporary reinstatement of Highway 1 in the areas of Holetown and Trents.

And according to Project Manager, Ricardo Marshall, while they had been able to achieve that task in part, the heavy periodic rains had caused flooded work sites.

He said the infiltration by groundwater continued even as they sought to pump water out, and there were also heavy and water-logged work materials coming from the quarry.

“We have been able to have Highway 1 open from today, going south from by Massy supermarket. We are expecting to have the road opened in the area by Trents/ Porters by the afternoon of Tuesday, September 10, and the area by the gas station as soon as possible after that,” the Project Manager stated.
