The Barbados Licensing Authority (BLA) will start issuing plastic driving licences to the public from Monday, June 2, from its headquarters in the Pine, St. Michael, and branches at Holetown, St. James, and Oistins, Christ Church.

Persons will, however, receive the card only upon renewal of their licence, which will continue to be before the end of their birth month, and upon presentation of their current licence.

Licensed drivers 70 years and over must renew their licence annually upon presentation of a medical certificate, as is now case.

The plastic driving licence will be valid for a period of one or three years and will feature the photograph of the licensee holder and information such as name, national registration number, gender, birth date, address, signature, driving licence registration and date of issue and expiration.

The fee for the one-year renewal is $50.00 while the three-year renewal fee is $125.00.

Licensed drivers should present their National Registration Card for the changeover from the book system to the plastic card and will be required to have their photograph taken and complete a form to facilitate processing of the relevant information.
