“The Government and people of Barbados join me in extending warmest congratulations to you and the People’s National Movement (PNM) Party on your resounding victory at the polls and your appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

I am confident that your experience and understanding of the dynamics of social and economic development will be of immense assistance in fostering the important integration and development of the Caribbean society.

I look forward to continuing close cooperation in dealing with the many crucial issues with which our region is confronted and to the further strengthening of our relations. We have a golden opportunity to forge ahead with our efforts to elevate the Barbados/Trinidad and Tobago bilateral relationship to another level. I am confident that the processes already in train, will gather momentum and that new, and even more exciting avenues for bilateral cooperation will emerge.

I offer you my very best wishes for a successful and rewarding term of office.
Please accept, Prime Minister, the assurances of my highest consideration.”
