Prime Minister Owen Arthur today sent congratulatory greetings to the newly elected Prime Minister of Jamaica, Mr. Bruce Golding.

The full text is as follows: 

“The Government and people of Barbados join me in conveying to you heartfelt congratulations on your recent success at the polls and your election as Prime Minister of Jamaica.

As partners in CARICOM and the CSME movement, Barbados and Jamaica have enjoyed excellent relations, and I give every assurance that my Government remains committed to working with your Administration to further enhance that longstanding relationship.

I remain confident that our Governments will continue to work closely in our mutual quest for fully realized regional integration.

Prime Minister, you assume office at a time when the Caribbean is in the process of negotiating new trade and economic relationships with our traditional partners.  As Prime Minister of Jamaica, you will assume special responsibility for giving leadership to those crucial international negotiations on the region’s behalf.

Please be assured that you can count fully on Barbados’ support on this matter that will fundamentally determine the future of our region.

As you commence your challenging mission, I take this opportunity to offer to you my best wishes for a full and rewarding term in office and the assurance of my continued support and understanding.“
