Government is determined to confront the infrastructural and resource issues constraining development in the north and east of the island.

This assurance came from Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley as she officially opened Royal Westmoreland’s latest £4.9 million villa, during a reception last Friday night.

Ms. Mottley said: “To the extent that the government can work with you, not only from an infrastructural perspective, but I think, when we met, I indicated that the Ministry of Tourism would work with you hand-in-hand to be able to see Barbados benefit fully, and to return to a position where it is…a location of choice for persons who want to have second or third homes across the world.”

Royal Westmoreland is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary and the Prime Minister stated that the development had added value to this country.

“That is no small achievement because the contribution of the persons who have bought properties in this development cannot simply be measured by the amount of money that they spent, but more so by the commitment that they bring to the development and well-being of this country,” she noted.

Ms. Mottley commended the Chairman of Royal Westmoreland, John Morphet, and his team for their “excellent work”. She noted that 276 houses had already been built, and there was potential for 200 more to be constructed.

Mr. Morphet described Royal Westmoreland as “superb” and said he was “very proud” of it.  He added that he was looking forward to taking it “to a further level” over the next few years.

The new luxury villa, which has a main house and guest cottage, is named 20 Lancaster Drive.  It was specially commissioned to mark the 25th anniversary of Royal Westmoreland.
