Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley will be cutting short her official business trip in New York to return to Barbados tomorrow.

This was disclosed by Acting Prime Minister, Dale Marshall, after he toured several Christ Church districts and a St. Michael community, which were affected by flooding caused by Tropical Storm Kirk.

Mr. Marshall said: “We are satisfied with some elements of our preparedness but some gaps can only be filled through financial injection. We would appreciate that we are in the middle of dealing with restructuring and how we proceed requires a certain level of sensitivity and for that reason the Prime Minister feels the sooner we address those gaps, and address the financial requirements for them, the sooner we would be able to get Barbados where it needs to be.”

Explaining that the Prime Minister was constantly briefed on the impacts of the storm, he stated that although Barbados was going through a “difficult time”, disaster preparedness will be a priority.

“We anticipate that she will arrive tomorrow and immediately set about meeting with the various heads, so that we can conduct a debriefing exercise.  Then she will see how we can make those financial adjustments,” Mr. Marshall noted.
