The late Ezra Moseley. (GP)

Today, I share with the Barbadian and West Indian cricketing fraternity, and the people of Barbados generally, a sense of profound sadness at the tragic passing of Mr. Ezra Moseley this morning.

And on behalf of the Government and people of Barbados, I extend my deepest sympathy to his family and everyone else touched by his death.

While he took to the field only twice wearing the West Indies Test cap, his contribution to the development of the sport in the region cannot be fairly measured by just those two games. What he has given has been much more significant, particularly his time as assistant coach with the Barbados and West Indies women’s cricket teams.

Additionally, no reflection of his support for the game in this country would be complete without a reference to his sterling contribution to the growth of scores of young people while he was cricket coach at The St. Michael School, including the indispensable role he played in the development of West Indies Test match captain, Jason Holder.

It is my wish that as his loved ones come together to cope with his loss, the memories of his contribution to his people and his country will bring enough solace to blunt the pain.

May his soul rest in peace.
