Prime Minister Freundel Stuart will be meeting tomorrow with some top civil servants to discuss the situation involving temporary Government employees.

Mr. Stuart made this disclosure earlier today after touring several shops at the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, Holetown, St. James. He told the media: ???I am going to be meeting with the Head of the Civil Service, the Chief Personnel Officer, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of the Civil Service and other persons involved in this whole process to make sure that this situation is clarified and to make sure that it is not mishandled???

???We are not in the business of creating turmoil in Barbadian households and keeping people in a state of emotional agitation. That is not the purpose at all. We have some challenges with which we are dealing, [and] we have to deal with those challenges firmly???,??? he told the media.

According to the Prime Minister, the aim of tomorrow???s meeting is to ensure that all of the issues are settled and ???this matter can be humanely and sensibly managed for the benefit??? of Government, the workers, households and businesses in Barbados.

However, Mr. Stuart gave the assurance that Government had not embarked on any programme or crusade to lay off workers, but stressed that it wants to increase efficiency in the public sector.

He said some people had received letters telling them their employment had come to an end and he was not sure why that had happened. ???What I do not want, though, is for this period of dealing with debt and deficit issues to be so mishandled that people who should not be at the receiving end of letters of this kind, end up with them,??? he stated.
