Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has extended condolences to the people of Ghana on the passing of their President, John Atta Mills, who died on Tuesday – five months ahead of the country’s election.

The Prime Minister, who met the late Ghanaian leader when they both addressed an Ocean’s conference in Washington DC, three months ago, described him as charming and thoughtful.

Mr. Stuart added: "I want on behalf of the Government and the people of Barbados to extend heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Ghana on the unfortunate and untimely passing of President Mills," he said during a courtesy call today with Ghana’s High Commissioner to Barbados, David Sarpong Boateng, at Ilaro Court.

The Prime Minister said the late Ghanaian President had left a distinguished and solid reputation for the people of Ghana to build on. "I am sure that the people of Ghana will recover from this," he added.??

President Mills was 68.
