The outstanding work of the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) in educating the public about government’s activities for more than five decades has come in for high praise from Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.

He expressed these sentiments after touring the various departments of the BGIS yesterday.

Accompanied by Permanent Secretaries in the Prime Minister’s Office, Captain Randolph Straughan (Special Assignments) and Keith Franklin, Mr. Stuart was taken down memory lane, as he saw first-hand, the treasure trove of information that traced Barbados’ social and economic development before and after Independence.

"I have to confess that the quality of work produced for the public is quite high and one wouldn’t have thought that what reaches the public is produced under circumstances as limiting as what I witnessed here today [yesterday].

It is a tribute to the patriotic spirit of the employees of the BGIS that they are able to put aside the inconveniences to which they are exposed to daily, to continue to render as high a quality of service to Barbados as they are rendering," Mr. Stuart surmised.

He also disclosed that plans were at an advanced stage to address space constraints and other challenges.?? In this regard, he revealed that, in the near future, the BGIS will be among those departments that will be accommodated at an expanded Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.
