Prime Minister Freundel Stuart met with Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Li Yong, on Monday, for talks on a number of important issues.
In addition to discussing the recently-held Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States in Samoa, they spoke about UNIDO’s readiness to engage in making sure that industrialisation could be a major element in sustainable development, with emphasis on innovation and technology, as well as energy efficiency.
Mr. Stuart and Mr. Li also talked about the UNIDO-Barbados Declaration on Piloting a Resource Efficient Low Carbon and Circular Industrial Partnership Platform for catalysing Eco-Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Barbados, which was signed on September 1, in Samoa.
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce will be working closely with UNIDO to finalise the project concept, set up the work plan, prepare a resource mobilisation strategy and implement it.
The Prime Minister is attending today???s one-day Climate Summit in New York, which was convened by UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon. Originally designated to co-chair a session on Energy, Mr. Stuart will now co-chair with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, the session on Adaptation, Resilience and Disaster Risk Reduction, in which the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility, among other things, will be discussed.
