Tourism stakeholders will soon be able to gain further knowledge about this leisure industry following the publication of Caribbean Tourism ??? a book written by Dr. Jean Holder, a former head of the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

He presented Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy, with copies of the book, on Monday, at Government Headquarters.

According to Dr. Holder, who has made a significant contribution to regional tourism for the past 40 years, the book examines tourism from historical, cultural, economic and strategic perspectives and covers the past 200 years.

He explained that it discusses some of the challenges of the tourism product, niche marketing, the potential of some of the new markets Barbados is seeking to attract, air transport and the future of the industry. ???Caribbean Tourism brings together information about the history of the industry, which has not been done before and it will be a book of practical value,??? Dr. Holder stressed.

Prime Minister Stuart commended Dr. Holder for writing the book, saying it ???is very valuable work??? which would be of tremendous importance to the region.??The book will be officially launched on March 17 by the Caribbean Development Bank???s President, Dr. Warren Smith.

Dr. Holder???s career spans the diplomatic service, tourism and air transportation and he is currently the Chairman of LIAT.
