Prime Minister Freundel Stuart

Government is set to create another initiative aimed at promoting energy efficiency in this country next week.

The Sustainable Energy Investment Programme or Energy Smart Fund will be officially launched by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, next Monday, November 28, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael at 9:00 a.m.

In addition, Senior Technical Officer of the Energy and Telecommunications Division, William Hinds, will give an overview of government’s Renewable Energy Programme; Project Manager, Keisha Reid, will examine the Sustainable Energy Investment Programme; while Financial Controller at the Enterprise Growth Fund Ltd., Ferdinand Straughn will look at the eligibility requirements and application process for the Energy Smart Fund. These sessions will get under way from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The US$10 million project is being designed in collaboration with the Enterprise Growth Fund Ltd. It will provide financial and technical support to renewable energy and energy efficient projects in Barbados. Funding was provided by the Inter-American Development Bank.
