Officials from the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) are advising residents and businesses to be careful in responding to requests for monetary donations to assist those affected by COVID-19.

In a statement issued today, the RBPF indicated that they had received several reports from businesses and organizations of receiving telephone calls and messages from persons purporting to be officials from the Ministry of Health and Wellness and authorized by the Minister to collect such funds.

However, the RBPF is advising those who receive such requests to first verify the authenticity of such individuals by seeking their names, formal identification, and contact details.

They should also check to see if that information is correct before accepting to do business with the individuals.

In addition, the RBPF is warning all those who try to receive monetary gain by means of deception that they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
