The Royal Barbados Police Force will mark 176 years of existence with a week of activities scheduled for May 21 to 28.
Under the theme: Community Partnership and Unity, celebrations will get underway on Saturday, May 21, with a Law Enforcement Torch Run beginning at 1:00 p.m. Spectators are being encouraged to line the route and donate their contributions of silver dollars, proceeds of which will go towards a planned trip to Greece by Special Olympic athletes.?? The Torch Run will commence at the following points, simultaneously: Arawak Cement Plant, St. Lucy; The Crane, St. Philip and Newbury, St. George.?? For the final leg, heads of law enforcement teams will assemble at Holborn Circle, and the run will conclude at Brandons Beach.?? Security teams will include the Royal Barbados Police Force, the Barbados Defense Force, the Barbados Fire Service, Her Majesty’s Prison, Immigration Department, Customs and Excise Department, Government and Airport Security Guards, Bridgetown Port Security Guards and the special athletes.
The following day, Sunday, May 22, members of the RBPF will join the congregation at a church service at the St. Lucy’s Parish Church, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs, Adriel Brathwaite, will attend and deliver remarks at the service.
An evening of music will be on the agenda that same day when the Police Band Concert, takes place at the Frank Collymore Hall, Church Village, St. Michael, starting at 7:30 p.m.??
On Monday, May 23, security forces will band together for a quiz night, at Solidarity House, commencing at 6:00 p.m. Teams from the Barbados Defence Force, the Royal Barbados Police Force, Her Majesty’s Prison, the Barbados Fire Service, Immigration Department and Customs and Excise Department will take part in this evening of educational activities and light hearted community engagement.
On Wednesday, May 25, members of the public can look forward to the Commissioner’s Annual Review and Parade, which are held at the Weymouth Complex, Roebuck Street, St. Michael at 4:00 p.m. That same evening, at 7:00 p.m., members of the visiting New York Police Department will participate in a Baseball Match and ten over Cricket Match against the RBPF at Weymouth Complex.
Officers are expected to compete for places in the finals, when the preliminaries of the Police Track and Field Championships, which will take place on Thursday, May 26 at the National Stadium at 9:00 a.m.
The following day, Friday, May 27, the Floodlit Tattoo will get underway at Weymouth Complex, from 7:00 p.m.??
Festivities will come to a close on Saturday, May 28, when the RBPF holds the finals of Track and Field Championships at the National Stadium, Waterford, St. Michael at 9:00 a.m.??
