Randal Phillips Polyclinic will celebrate World Diabetes Day on Friday, November 14, 2008 with an educational session from 9:00 a.m. until 12 noon under the theme “Diabetes in Children and Adolescents”.

Among the topics to be discussed are “Never Too Young To Be A Diabetic” by Dr. Tonya Gibson; “Why Can`t I Eat Like My friends?” by Nutritionist, Brian Payne and “Why Do I Have To Inject Myself Daily?” by a representative of the Barbados Drug Service.  There will also be display booths of blood sugar monitors and posters on diabetes.

According to Health Sister Blondelle Mullin, “the aim of the session is to heighten awareness to the fact that diabetes can affect any member of your household, especially if you are genetically predisposed to the disease.

“You don`t have to be diagnosed with diabetes to come and learn about these interesting topics,” she added.

The session will be addressed by Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Arthur Phillip.
