Patients awaiting medical attention at the Winston Scott Polyclinic, located at Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael can now view educational programmes on health during their visits.

Staff at the institution recently donated a 32′ inch flat-screen wall-mounted television to their clients as part of its Customer Appreciation Day, on Thursday, May 19.??

As it was ???turned on’ in the waiting area of the general practice clinic, Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ingrid Cumberbatch praised her staff for having raised funds for its purchase. She told patients and guests, " it is part of continuous efforts to improve the patient experience at the health care facility and to use media as a mode of patient education and health promotion".

Also present was Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Senator Irene Sandiford-Garner, who acknowledged that the gift was representative of people and Government working together. "I am so heartened to see that the staff saw it fit to do something for their clinic. They have taken ownership of their workplace and decided to do something in return," she said.

Indicating, however, that the Winston Scott Polyclinic needed five in all, Mrs. Sandiford-Garner stressed: "I do think that we need one in the pharmacy for sure, where we can show some educational material to people so that they can understand [a lot].

She also expressed the hope that at least one television would be provided to "every single polyclinic across the island".????

The presentation of a television to patients followed the dedication of equipment to the School Eye Clinic by the Lions Club of St. Michael.?? These gifts were given as part of the 25th Anniversary of the Winston Scott Polyclinic.

Celebrations commenced on May 8 with a church service at Bethel Methodist Church and are expected to continue throughout the year. (JG/BGIS)
