Joining other international postal administrations in celebrating World Post Day on October 9, the Barbados Postal Service (BPS) has come up with a varied programme that will also highlight the work of the post office this year.

Reflecting the theme “Delivering Change in the 21st Century”, the BPS has included new events, hopefully with both staff and customer appeal. This Saturday, October 4, 2008, the Post will host “Let’s Get Physical”, a 6K walk and run from the General Post Office to the Fitts Village Esplanade, starting at 6 a.m. Registration continues at the post office on Cheapside until midday, tomorrow, October 3. There will be no registration on race day. Prizes for juniors, seniors and staff, in addition to the overall winner will be presented immediately after the races.

An old-fashioned family picnic for staff and friends of the post office at Holetown beach follows at 10:30 a.m.

On Sunday, October 5, 2008, the BPS joins the congregation of Abundant Life Assembly for a service of thanksgiving at 8 a.m. which Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs Freundel Stuart will attend.

Post office teams then take on University of the West Indies (UWI) sides in invitational basketball, football and 20/20 cricket matches at UWI, Cave Hill on Monday, October 6, 2008, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the football game.

Inter-post office domino matches are scheduled for the Eagle Hall Post Office on October 8, 2008. The four-hand domino finals will be held in the Jackie Opel Amphitheatre at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2008. (TA)
