Barbados joined the rest of the world today, Wednesday, October 9, to mark World Post Day 2019 under the theme: Delivering Development.

The day is celebrated to inform persons about the contribution of the post towards the social and economic development of countries.

And, as a member of the Universal Postal Union, the Barbados Postal Service (BPS) will host a series of events to create awareness about the postal sector for businesses and the general public.

On Saturday, October 12, the BPS will host a sports day at the Briar Hall Pavilion from 4:00 p.m. Activities on the day will include netball, tennis and basketball matches.

This will be followed by a hike on Saturday, October 19, led by Senior Postman, Hutson Forde, from 2:30 p.m. The hike will start and conclude at River Bay, St. Lucy.

The activities will return to the General Post Office (GPO), Cheapside, St. Michael, on Friday, October 25, when the 3-Hand Pull-A-Rama dominoes competition comes off at 7:00 p.m.

The postal activities will conclude with a scenic ride on Sunday, October 27, when coaches will leave the GPO at 10:00 a.m. for the Farley Hill National Park, St. Peter. Picnickers will be treated to a day of karaoke, dancing and other entertainment, and lunch.
