As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) will give young artists an opportunity to showcase their skills by participating in a poster competition.

The theme of the contest is “Coping with the Impact of the Cost of Living” and it targets primary school children from class Two to Four.

Students are required to design a poster in a colourful, creative and interactive fashion, and each individual entry must be submitted through the contestant’s school.  The poster must depict the following topic “Way to Reduce the Cost of Living”.

Posters will be judged on the following criteria: creativity, originality and content and must be 20×14 inches and should be on Bristol board.

Entries must also include the following information:  name of the entrant, name of school, class and the address.

The grand prize is $500.00 in educational supplies, while the second and third prizes are $300.00 and $200.00 in educational supplies respectively.

The top three poster will be highlighted in BGIS’ 2009 Calender and winners will each received a complimentary copy of ‘Shaping -A-Nation Book; Principals of Barbadian Schools 1900-1980’.

Entries should be submitted by Friday, November 28, 2008 to the attention of Mr. Ronnie Yearwood, Marketing Officer, Barbados Government Information Service, Bay Street, St. Michael.
