Pottery is still alive in Barbados!

This sentiment was expressed by local potter John Springer, one of the organisers of the Pottery Festival which begins this Sunday, July 1 and runs until Saturday, August 11, at the Potter’s Village in Chalky Mount, St. Andrew.

The public is invited to view and purchase the variety of clay pieces which will be on display every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Mr. Springer, along with artisans Winston Dupal and Joseph Kellman, have acknowledged the lack of promotion of pottery in that area, and, therefore, developed the festival to highlight the industry.

During the six-week event, traditional items which have been off the market will be re-introduced, and visitors will have an opportunity to see how pottery is created.
