Government’s Advisor to the Prime Minister on Poverty Eradication, Hamilton Lashley, today handed over a rebuilt house to 32-year-old Karen Hallett at Halls Road, St. Michael.

It was the fourth such house which was built through the ‘Carrying Out the Promise’ initiative with assistance from the British American Insurance Co. Barbados Ltd.

“If you had seen this house before its current status, you would have really felt sad in a way that a person could have been living in there. I am very pleased that British American Insurance Co. partnered with my office to assist the family of the house,” Mr. Lashley said.

The company provided over $60,000 to rebuild the house, gave “hands-on” assistance with aspects of its construction and pledged to provide home insurance for one year.

“Without the corporate assistance,” said Mr. Lashley, “this project might have never been possible. I will continue to encourage corporate Barbados to be a part of this programme of assisting those who cannot help themselves.”

General Manager of British American Insurance Barbados, Keith King, said his company was indeed glad to be associated with such a programme. “British American does not exist to be involved in commerce alone, but our responsibility is to help our citizens as well by being a good corporate citizen. With ventures like this we can help many more people in our communities who are in need of assistance”.

Recipient of the house, Karen Hallett, said she was “very thankful” to Mr. Lashley, British American and all the others who worked together in refurbishing her home. “On behalf of myself and my six children I want to thank you all and we promise to care the house,” she said.
