"…A dynamic operation that lies at the heart of the Barbados economy, forming a vital link in the movement of cargo and cruise passengers."

That was the description of the Bridgetown Port by Minister of International Business and International Transport, George Hutson, as he delivered the feature address at the 50th Anniversary Award Ceremony of the Barbados Port Inc. held last Saturday evening at the Hilton Barbados Hotel. ????

Special praises were made to the members of staff, who were credited as the driving force behind the success of the Port. "Both present and former port workers must be duly recognised for their sterling contribution to the development of the Port," Mr. Hutson stated. He acknowledged the key roles workers played in the successful expansion programmes executed over the past 50 years.

Notable achievements of the Port included its "Best in Class" designation as the leader among regional ports with similar land size and operations; winning the "Port of the Year Award" six times between 1992 and 2003; several awards as an outstanding cruise destination and multi-purpose port; and the Novaport Cup from the Port Management Association of the Caribbean for "Most Improved Port Performance" in 2009 and 2010.

??Mr. Hutson’s also said a special "Thank You" to port workers and all workers of Barbados, for standing firm with the government in these difficult times.
