Preparations for the Community Development Department’s Community Dance Fest finals continue to gather pace, with the 13 participants fine-tuning their routines for the January 21 show.

The finals will get under way at 5:00 p.m. at the Garfield Sobers Complex, where the dance groups will compete in two categories – four in the children’s section and nine in the adults.

Last year’s winners, Xtra Hype, are among those going through their paces under the guidance of Chief Coach, Ramoun Joseph, and his assistants.

Group member, Ronaldo Lowe said he expected the competition to be extremely difficult, but stressed that his group was working very hard to score a repeat victory.

Keisha Squires of Les Femmes Magnifique, the lone female group in the adult section, said her members were practicing daily and she hoped to secure their first win.

Sean Goddard of Academy of Dance, described preparations as "a bit stressful", however, he believed his group stood a good chance of winning the competition.

The other adult dance groups in the competition are Demolition Squad, Reactive Squad, Kumba, Adrenalin, Alexandra School, and Supa Crazy.?? The children’s section comprises Little People Fun n’ Frolic, the Israel Lovell Foundation, OLOS and Tabia.

Community Dance Fest is a nursery for aspiring dancers across Barbados. It is designed to promote community spirit and assist the performers in their personal development.

The finalists were chosen following zonal preliminaries and four zone finals last month.

Community Dance Fest, which is in its fourth year, is coordinated by the Community Development Department in collaboration with the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat, the National Cultural Foundation, the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat and the Commission for Pan-African Affairs.
