It is critical that our educational system works in collaboration with families to provide them with the knowledge and skills to assist young people in school and when they enter the workplace.
These comments were made recently by Minister of Labour, Social Security and Human Resource Development, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, at the launch of the Transition to Secondary School Programme, held at Baobab Tower.
The programme is aimed at equipping all Class Four students with the necessary skills to make informed decisions about appropriate behaviours in the new secondary school environment.
Senator Byer Suckoo noted that the initiative had great potential to assist young people in dealing with the many challenges within the workplace.?????Our young people are often not protected from these challenges. Hence, it is critical that our educational system works in collaboration with families to provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to manoeuvre the challenges which may beset them,??? she emphasised.
Dr. Byer Suckoo pointed out that assisting in the education of workers has always been a priority for the Ministry of Labour.???Over the years, information on social security, safety and health, labour relations and other labour matters pertinent to the job have been widely disseminated??? [So] workers have the requisite knowledge and skills to make informed decisions on the job. This is important for a productive economy,??? she stated.
The Transitioning to Secondary Schools Programme is funded by the European Union and facilitated by the National HIV/AIDS Commission.
