Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley met with Barbadian-born Bishop of Croydon, The Rt Rev’d Dr. Rosemarie Mallett, yesterday at Ilaro Court, Two Mile Hill, St Michael.
Prime Minister Mottley and Bishop Mallett discussed several matters, including the historical and religious linkages between Barbados and the United Kingdom, progressing the conversation surrounding reparations, addressing mental well-being amongst the population and addressing pressing social issues.
Bishop Mallett, who left Barbados as a child, was ordained in 2005 and consecrated as Bishop in June of this year, making her only the second woman to be appointed as a Bishop in the UK, the first woman Bishop of Croydon, and the second Barbadian to hold that position; the first being the Rt Rev’d Wilfred Wood, who served as Bishop from 1985 to 2003. Additionally, Bishop Mallett is the Diocesan lead on Racial Justice and has also written the Diocese of Southwark’s Anti-Racism Charter.
