Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley will participate in the third meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Action Network on Post-Disaster Recovery, being held in Puerto Rico, from January 29 to 30.
Ms. Mottley has been invited by former President of the United States of America, William ‘Bill’ Clinton, to take part in the closing plenary session on Wednesday, under the theme: Fortifying the Future of the Caribbean Economy.
Mr. Clinton, who is hosting the meeting, along with his daughter Chelsea, will moderate the session, which will also feature the Executive Chairman of Banco Popular, Richard Carrion, among others.
Ms. Mottley and those participating in that session will outline their vision for the future of the Caribbean economy, as well as share strategies and approaches that Action Network members can take to help realize the forward-looking economic vision.
The CGI Action Network will bring together leaders from government, business and civil society to discuss and develop strategies and solutions to address hurricane recovery needs in the region, while laying the foundation for a more resilient future.
At the meeting, participants will also discuss Commitments to Action, which were announced at the Action Network’s meeting last August.
Commitments to Action are specific and measurable projects that address critical issues such as food security, access to health care, small business support, sustainable tourism and renewable energy. CGI Action Network members have finalized more than 25 commitments.
Established in 2005 by President Clinton, the CGI organized global and emerging leaders to create and implement solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. After devastating hurricanes affected this region in September 2017, assistance was requested, and in response, the Clinton Foundation formally launched a new Post-Disaster Recovery Network, on April 3, 2018, in Miami, Florida.
Action Network, which is built on CGI’s proven Commitment to Action model, has brought together leaders from across sectors to develop new, specific and measurable plans that will advance the recovery from hurricanes, and promote long-term resiliency across the region.
