Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has high hopes for Barbados??? relationship with the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF).

Mr. Stuart said CAF does business a little differently and its various initiatives could help the country to keep its feet planted firmly on the ground and to be more resilient.

Therefore, he stressed that Government was looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the Bank.??He made the comments recently during a courtesy call with the Bank???s Executive President, L. Enrique Garcia, who was here on a two-day official visit.

Those present at the meeting at Government Headquarters were Minister of Finance, Christopher Sinckler; Senior Advisor to the Executive President, Sanchez Masi; Director of Programming Operations, Miguel Angel Ostos; Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister???s Office, Sonja Welch; and Manager of the Public Investment Unit, Seibert Fredericks.

The Prime Minister stressed that there was bi-partisan consensus on Barbados??? relationship with CAF, pointing out that since 2002 Government had expressed an interest in becoming a member of the Bank.

He noted that the world???s economic and financial climate had become very volatile and a lot of the certainties of the past had gone through the window.??Mr. Garcia said he was pleased with Barbados??? decision to join CAF, saying that he too was looking forward to a strong relationship.

Acknowledging that Barbados has had some financial challenges, he stressed that CAF was willing to render support, especially since it has a very sound intellectual capacity.
