Prime Minister Freundel Stuart today sent a letter of condolence to Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron following the death of that country’s former Prime Minister, Baroness Margaret Thatcher.

Mr. Stuart said: “I received…with sadness the news of the passing of the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Baroness Margaret Thatcher.”

He continued: “During the period 1979 to 1990 when she served as Prime Minister, Baroness Thatcher exhibited the traits of confidence, strong leadership, determination and resilience that made Britons proud of their first female Prime Minister.

She showed remarkable tenacity in representing the interests of the British people. Her contribution to Britain and the world has left an enduring legacy which will forever adorn the annals of history.”

Mr. Stuart added: “On behalf of the Government and people of Barbados, I extend to the British Government and the people of Britain, including the family of the late Baroness Thatcher, our most sincere condolences and solidarity at this time of national mourning.”

Baroness Thatcher died yesterday at the age of 87.
