The cordial relations that exist between Barbados and Sweden will continue.

This was the message when Prime Minister Freundel Stuart met with Sweden’s newly appointed ambassador to Barbados, Claes Hammer today at Government Headquarters.

During the wide-ranging talks, Prime Minister Stuart mentioned that despite the effects of the global economic crisis on the island, Barbados was making great strides in its pursuance of alternative sources of renewable energy and waste to energy.

He also noted that the island’s topography and size made it ideal for such pursuits and would be partnering with the Inter- American Development Bank to get the process accelerated.

In turn, the Swedish envoy said he was very happy to be here and noted that his country was also pursuing alternative sources of energy, including re-using household waste and was moving away from dependence on the use of fossil fuels.

Discussion also focused on the Freedom of Movement of Persons within the region, the Single Market and Economy and the possibility of exploring cooperation in the areas of health care.

Ambassador Hammer was accompanied by Honorary Consul Titti Kerr-Axelsson. Barbados and Sweden established diplomatic relations on March 19, 1976.??
