Prime Minister Freundel Stuart is impressed with ???the high quality work??? that has become synonymous with telecommunications company Digicel as a service provider in Barbados and throughout the Caribbean, and has pledged Government???s continued support for its ventures.

Mr. Stuart expressed these sentiments, as he met with that company???s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Linehan and Commercial Director, Alex Tasker, at Government Headquarters recently.

Mr. Stuart said he was pleased to learn about Digicel???s plans to expand its operations in Barbados, and was quite happy with what he had seen and heard about the company, noting that this was reflected in the positive feedback that came from consumers.

???You have made your presence felt in a very emphatic way???Your company is doing very well and has enjoyed a lot of confidence. You can rely not only on Government???s support, but the population has seen the merit of giving you this trust,??? he added.

Mr. Stuart urged the service provider to continue to strive for reliability and a high standard of service. He hailed Digicel for being an ???exemplary corporate citizen???, saying that he expected the relationship between the company and Barbados to continue to grow and expand.

In his remarks, Mr. Linehan said his company was pleased to be in the Caribbean and was keen to invest in Barbados and to expand its operations, and this was demonstrated with the opening of a retail store in Oistins.

He added that his company was dedicated to satisfying consumers??? demand for more access to the social network, noting that data usage was increasing. ???We???ve seen a huge appetite for data and we will be expanding the 4G network and doubling the capacity,??? he said.

Mr. Linehan disclosed that his company wanted to be part of the growth in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) development in Barbados, to facilitate business efficiency. Future investment in Long Term Evolution (LTE) and the placing of fibre optic cables across the three most highly populated parishes were under active consideration, he added.

Discussion also focussed on the Caribbean Premier League and Digicel???s role in community development.
