A one-day sensitisation workshop about ways of detecting and eradicating mosquitoes and rodents, to prevent associated diseases, will be held next week for principals and teachers across the island.

The Vector Control Unit of the Ministry of Health will conduct the training, which comes off on Wednesday, May 12, in the Environmental Health Training Room at Jemmott’s Lane.

Emphasis will be placed on enhancing participants’ knowledge in order for them to provide a cleaner and safer school, home and community environment. The sensitisation will be both theoretical and practical in nature.

The training for principals and teachers gets under way from 9:00 a.m. and will be addressed by the Chief Environmental Health Officer, Tyrone Applewhaite.

This sensitisation follows on the heels of large-scale training on vector control, conducted last year in primary schools.?? It is in preparation for the upcoming National Schools’ Quiz Competition on Dengue and Leptospirosis that will involve some 91 public and private primary schools.
