Over the next week, a set of community, social and sporting activities will showcase the Barbados Prison Service and highlight the work being done at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds, which is celebrating its first anniversary.

This year’s celebrations, coinciding with the first anniversary of the official opening of Dodds, begin with a church service at 9:15 a.m. at the St. Philip Parish Church on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008. Acting Prime Minister Freundel Stuart (from tomorrow, Saturday, October 11, 2008) will join the worshippers and on Wednesday, October 15, he will review the anniversary parade at 4 p.m.

Former prison officers will tour the institution at 10:00 a.m. on the Tuesday. A games evening at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 16 involving prison staff and friends contesting indoor and outdoor events; a lime and karaoke in the prison staff centre at 8 p.m. the next day and the public health fair at 10 a.m. on the Saturday, at Emerald City, St. Philip, will complete the annual week of activities.
