The Barbados Private Sector Association has donated 40 smart phones to the Ministry of Health and Wellness to help facilitate ease of communication between those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 response.

The smart phones, which were obtained through the support of Digicel Barbados, were received by Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Anton Best.

Dr. Best revealed that the 40 Samsung Galaxy A01 smart phones were being distributed to the public health teams involved in contact tracing and monitoring persons in quarantine.

He expressed the Ministry’s gratitude to the private sector body for the generous donation, which he said would greatly enhance the teams’ ability to reach those persons who may have potentially been impacted by COVID-19.

Contact tracing, he explained, was a critical measure in containing the spread of the viral illness.

Chairman of the Barbados Private Sector Association, Edward Clarke, said that the private sector recognized its responsibility to the people of Barbados as the country navigated this public health emergency, and was committed to doing everything it could to assist the Government in overcoming the challenges.

He added: “I especially want to express our thanks to Digicel for responding to the request as soon as it was made.  And I commend the Ministry of Health and Wellness and all the frontline workers who are leading us through this process for the wonderful job they are doing.”
