The David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic 2015 has received a BDS $36,000 sponsorship boost from the private sector.

Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steven Blackett, today received cheques from Flow Barbados for $30,000, and Solaris Global Energy Ltd for $6,000, respectively, at his Warrens office.

Mr. Blackett thanked both organisations for the donations, which he called timely, adding that the money would benefit the tournament significantly.

He suggested that competitions such as the David Thompson Football Classic could assist Barbadian youth with becoming positive members of society.??

???In recent times, increasing attention has been paid to the need to develop more community relations with the involvement of the youth and others within various communities across the island. ???It is imperative therefore that we put in place a strong and vibrant strategy at the community level to ensure that our young people are involved in wholesome and uplifting activity,??? he stated.

Meanwhile, Managing Director for Flow???s operations in Barbados, Niall Sheehy, said that his company was ???happy and pleased??? to partner with the Ministry for the tournament.

He was of the view that the tournament gave young men an opportunity to participate in their communities in a positive way, while moulding their skills. He added that the competition also fit with Flow???s mandate.

???It aligns perfectly with our mission, which is to make a suitable contribution to the quality of life through community building, and to youth and education, through sports in the community where our customers, employees and shareholders live and work,??? Mr. Sheehy remarked.??The Managing Director also revealed that Flow will broadcast all of the competition???s matches on Flow TV, both locally and regionally.

Sales Manager of Solaris Global Energy Ltd, Shakeena Rock, said that her company was happy to make a contribution to the tournament, as part of its mandate for 2015 was to assist more in community development.

The tournament kicks off on Sunday, September 27, at the Gall Hill Playing Field, St. John, with an opening ceremony at 4:00 p.m., and the first of the two matches beginning at 6:00 p.m.??The finals will be held on Sunday, December 6, at Kensington Oval at 6:00 p.m. Thirty teams, representing six zones, will compete for the first prize of BDS $30,000.
