Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Elizabeth Ferdinand yesterday received medical equipment valued at BDS$32, 241 from three private sector entities.
The equipment will be used at the Winston Scott Polyclinic, Jemmotts Lane, St. Michael.
Consumer Guarantee Insurance (CGI) and Diagnostic Radiology Services/Emergency Room donated two mechanical scales as well as an opthalmoscope and an otoscope, instruments used to examine the eyes and ears.
The Paloma Charitable Foundation donated an autoclave which is used to sterilize medical instruments.
Ms. Lisl Lewis of the Barbados International Business Association (BIBA) Charity explained that the three entities responded to an appeal from her organization which has been working closely with the Ministry of Health to assist Government in meeting priority needs in the health sector.
She said that the relationship between BIBA Charity and Government was ongoing and other donations would be made in the future.
Dr. Ferdinand thanked the three organisations and told their representatives that the equipment was greatly appreciated since the Winston Scott Polyclinic served a very large catchment area.
Diagnostic Radiology Services/Emergency Room was represented by Dr. Mohini Harris while CGI was represented by Mr. Dwayne Holder. Ms. Lewis made the presentation on behalf of Paloma Charitable Foundation.
