Professor Emeritus Henry Fraser has been hailed by Minister of Education and Human Resource Development, Ronald Jones, as an outstanding Barbadian who has contributed much to this country and the region.??

Minister Jones was speaking last evening at a ceremony to name the Medical Sciences Auditorium in honour of the Professor.

Explaining that the recently retired Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences had made a significant contribution to the Universities of the West Indies (UWI) as a whole, and an outstanding contribution to the Cave Hill Campus in particular, the Minister said Professor Fraser’s example was one to be emulated.

"We need to borrow the leaves from the branches of Professor Fraser. Those students in the medical faculty and those that have already graduated and are now doctors can borrow from his journey.

"More of us have to join this wagon of persons in the mould of Henry Fraser.?? We have produced many giants in this small Caribbean space and at this time need to call on them to stand up…don’t retreat because of political divide or colour, but know that you were born to make a contribution to human life and civilisation," he encouraged.

The Minister also took the opportunity to reiterate the commitment of his Government and that of other administrations in the region to the sustainability of the UWI.?? "We may have to lean the scales this way and that way to maintain the services provided. It is challenging but men and women committed to ideas and ideals can make it work," he assured.

Mr. Jones added that he had faith in the leaders of UWI to make the necessary adjustments to move forward during these current economic challenges.
