The Community Development Department, in collaboration with the St. Peter HIV/AIDS Education Committee, will host an HIV Soccer-rama Tournament this weekend.

The event begins on Sunday, May 22, at the Black Bess Playing Field, Black Bess, St. Peter, with an opening ceremony at 2:30 p.m., after which the tournament will begin, ending at 10:00 p.m.

The following week, Sunday, May 29, the tournament continues from 2:30 to 10:00 p.m.

The HIV Soccer-rama Tournament is designed to promote safe sexual practices, in hopes of reducing the incidence of HIV. It also aims to decrease stigma and discrimination through the sensitisation of community members about the effects of HIV/AIDS.

Activities include soccer matches, entertainment, free HIV testing and counselling and health education. Creative products and beauty services will be on sale and display.

Persons may call Jacqueline Pinder at the Community Development Department at 535-1650, 535-1663 or 230-0450, for further information.
