The TVET Council (TVETC) Barbados is collaborating with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) to facilitate two workshops on integrating sustainable development in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Barbados and the wider CARICOM region.

The regional workshop will be held from tomorrow, Tuesday, June 5, to Friday, June 8, at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa, Rockley, Christ Church. Twenty persons comprising mainly educators and curriculum officers from Grenada, Jamaica, St. Kitts, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Barbados will participate.

The national workshop will be held from Monday, June 11, to Friday, June 15, at the TVET Council, Hastings House West, Balmoral Gap, Hastings, Christ Church.

Twenty-two persons from local training institutions, including the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology, the Barbados Community College, the Barbados Vocational Training Board, the Barbados Institute of Management and Productivity, Erdiston Teachers’ Training College, the Career Development Institute and the Barbados Employers’ Confederation will be in attendance.

Education Specialist for Technical & Vocational Skills Development with COL, Dr. Alison Mead Richardson, will facilitate the regional workshop, while Professor and Deputy Principal of Makerere University Business School in Uganda, Dr. Moses Muhwezi will facilitate the national workshop.

In its role as a UNESCO-UNEVOC Centre for Barbados, the TVET Council has embarked on a sustainable development programme for technical and vocational education and training, focusing initially on greening TVET. The Council will work with its partners to position the TVET system in Barbados to equip the workforce with the relevant skills needed for a green economy, and, to promote sustainable development practices within TVET institutions.
