All persons who own places where events, such as fetes and shows will be staged, are reminded that it is compulsory to have a public entertainment licence from the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA).

Proprietors are required to apply for a Place of Public Entertainment Licence and to renew this licence annually on or before January 31 of each year, in order to host events at their locations.

The Authority is urging those persons who are desirous of hosting events at their location and have never attained such a licence, or who have not yet renewed their licence, to do so without delay.

All applicants for the Place of Public Entertainment Licence should register with the Customer Service Department at either the Treasury Building or Bridge Street Mall locations.

First-time applications should be accompanied by a certificate from the Chief Town Planner, a certificate from the Commissioner of Police and a certificate from the Chief Fire Officer.  If a licence is being renewed, the applicant only needs to produce a certificate from the Chief Fire Officer.

It is an offence for any person to operate a place of public entertainment without the relevant licence.  Contravention of this requirement may result in a fine of $5,000.00, or imprisonment for two years, or both.

Promoters are advised that they must not stage events at places that are not licensed. Officers from the Barbados Revenue Authority will be in the field to conduct compliance visits for verification of the licence.
