Four days of prose and poetry will be a highlight of the activities to mark Education Month 2015.

Every Thursday for the rest of this month ??? October 8, 15, 22 and 29 ??? an informal atmosphere will be created at the Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road, St. Michael, for children and adults to share poems and short stories with the public.

This is when the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation hosts Prose and Poetry in the Amphitheatre. The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. each day.

Coordinator of the series and Education Officer, Christina Morris, said the aim of the event was to provide another forum for strengthening oral language and presentation skills, as well as enhancing reading fluency and expression skills.

Students from neighbouring schools, teachers and members of staff of the Ministry, and business houses in the area are invited to present original pieces or select from their favourite author or poet.

???These can be recited or read because we are promoting the oral language and expression. Patrons can bring their lunch, relax and have a fun time,??? Mrs. Morris stated, adding that impromptu performances were also welcomed.

Stressing that the event should allow for learning at all levels, the Education Officer said it was also anticipated that much dialogue would occur. ???We want to get more interest from people; have them motivated to read and more importantly, encourage students and adults to put their thoughts on paper so the island can build a culture of creative writing,??? she explained.

On Thursday, October 8, patrons can come and witness presentations from students and teachers of George Lamming and Hindsbury primary schools, as well as staff from the Ministry and the Erdiston Teachers??? Training College. On Thursday, October 15, it will be the turn of Belmont Primary, St. Ambrose, St. Paul???s, Bay Primary and Westbury.

Education Month is being celebrated under the theme: Transforming Education: Imagine, Explore, Create.
