The protection of new plant varieties will come under the microscope when the  Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office, in association with the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants, hosts a one-day consultation with stakeholders.

It will take place tomorrow, Friday, February 17, in the Christ Church Conference Room, 5th Floor, Baobab Tower, Warrens, St. Michael, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The aim of the consultation is to provide and promote an effective system of plant variety protection, with the intention of encouraging the development of new varieties of plants.

It should also present an opportunity to bring substantial value to Barbados, as the country seeks to improve capacity and increase economic opportunities for persons to build on intellectual property in Agriculture and Horticulture.
